Just wen't to Totonnos for the first time since the fire. It was as perfect as always. The place was as charming as always and Neptune Ave is still the same, a dump.

Totonnos and diFara's are the only two great, old-time Brooklyn pizza places that are still around. (At least that I know about.)

L&B's is still good but doesn't, in my opinion, qualify as great. New places such as Lucali's in Carroll Gardens are excellent too but they lack the history.

I fear that when Dominic at diFara's passes on that diFara's will be no longer. Totonnos is one of the places that should remain for another generation.

For you out-of-towners here's a negative review:

"Like a big tortilla chips with chesse and sauce. More garlic than bread, and more sauce exists in a ketchup pack. If this is the way pizza was made in the good ole' days, destroy the time machines now."

Pizza, at it's best, is a sublime blend of a tasty, chewy AND crispy dough; delicious tomato sauce and mozzeralla. (I like it best with fresh basil.) If one of the three overwhelms the other then the TASTE experience is diminished.

Clip on Bow Ties versus Tie Your Own

I just had a discussion regarding clip-on bow ties and when, if ever, they can be worn. I feel that anytime you are in an formal, elegant setting you should NEVER, NEVER wear clip-on ties. However, if you are matching up a bow tie with a whimsical outfit: cut-off sleeves and suspenders with shorts and boots (for example) and walking around town then a clip-on tie is fine.

Just make certain that Scott Shuman is there to immortalize your look in The Sartorialist.

How to take care of linen

Linen is notorious for wrinkling, and in an odd way, that's part of its charm. Casual linen pieces can be washed at home in the washer and dryer, and is recommended, because the more linen is washed, the softer, more absorbent and more luminous it becomes.

For the most part linen jackets, suits, and dresses should be dry cleaned to keep their inner construction (facings, lining, shoulder pads, etc.) intact. And dry cleaning restores linen's crisp shape and finish.

However before you wash linen be sure to check the label to see if it is mixed with other fibers; always iron linen when it is damp; and finally avoid folding linen as the wrinkles are unsightly and very hard to remove.

According to Men's Journal Brooklyn is one of the great places to have a beer.

[NYC] is home to more young, finicky drinkers than any other city in the country. The result: the greatest beer-bar scene in the U.S. More than 20,000 bars and restaurants operate within the five boroughs, and even dives carry great imports such as Jever and Hoegaarden.

Where to Drink: Brooklyn. It’s perhaps the best place in America for a pub crawl. Start with Gaffel Kölsch at the cavernous “middle European” beer hall Radegast. Continue the binge a 10-minute walk away at Spuyten Duyvil for smartly chosen Belgian brews. Then either finish the night on the patio of Park Slope’s extreme-beer-focused the Gate or sipping magnificent, wallet-busting rarities (think $50-plus bottles) at nearby Beer Table.

We have many colors, salmon (shown) purple, black, white, red. They have a similar cut to the Bogosse: athletic shoulders and a slim body. The difference is that the Stone Rose shirts have a shorter body and sleeves.

Mariano Rivera

Once again I think they're bringing in Rivera too early. Don't ask him to retire 5 or 6 batters unless it's absolutely necessary. Marte was pitching great, he could have faced another batter. Torre made that mistake a few times and now his apostle is doing the same. Better to have Marte continue until he gives up a hit and then bring Rivera in. Good thing I'm not a Yankee fan, it would drive me nuts.

We used Kinross's photos; they chose to have a preppy photo shoot. YOU don't have to be preppy to wear them. They FEEL fantastic. Wear real cashmere and you'll never buy those bargain basement cashmeres again.

One thing to keep in mind all cashmere is not created equal. The label "100% cashmere" applies to the animal hair, not the way it was collected, sorted, dyed, bleached or knitted. To go solely by the label "100% cashmere" when selecting a garment is like going by the label "100% grapes" when selecting a wine.

Chemicals in local water supplies can be damaging and corrosive to metals. Almost all glass cleaners contain ammonia which is corrosive to metals. Hoppy Beer for the Summertime

I love hoppy beer in the summertime. I found a new one: West Coast IPA from Green Flash Brewing based in San Diego, California. The first sip was almost two hoppy, too overpowering; but the more I drank it the more I loved the different flavors. They describe it as "extravagantly hopped." I couldn't agree more.

They used Simcoe for its unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for a strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma.

Columbus and Centennial are the two dominant flavors when it first hits your tongue but then the Simcoe and Cascade add to the mix. It's aroma is pure grapefruit zest. Delightful. By the way, don't want to sound more knowledgeable than I am. If they didn't say which hops they used I wouldn't have been able to tell you.

The Taste of the Nation event at the Tobacco Warehouse was a wonderful event. For everyone that missed it come next year. It's a beautiful setting, with great food, a
fashion show and a great time for all.

"Most of the fun transpired in the huge, main area, where a catwalk was erected centerstage. Midway through the evening, bootylicious models shook their bods in fashions by Big Girls United, designed for "thick and sexy ladies." Brooklyn Industries (with several locations in the borough, and two Fifth Avenue shops in Park Slope), Razor for men, and Serene Rose (who supplied garments by Shawn Christopher Kelley's "Christopher" label) contributed outfits for the runway."

We have three lines of Buckler, a light wash, a dark wash and one with a brown, tanin wash. The light denim has some of the best baked in creases I've seen or felt and only slightly distressed. The dark wash has these big stitches along the top part of the side seams. The stitching is discreet enought to wear the denim to work. The denim with the brown wash is a beautiful pair of denim; great wash, slightly distressed, with great fit.

Antik and Tavartini Denim

We have 3 new styles of 1921s in -- and a fourth, the one with the big stiching -- is coming soon. We ordered up to a size 38.

We also have a few new styles of Buffalos. I love the washes, perfect for the summer.

We don't have any narrow-legged denim yet (except, of course, for those Yanuks) but we should be getting our Bucklers by the end of the month and at least two styles will be narrow-legged.

We just got in a crazy amount of new t-shirts and polo shirts from 3rd Born, division E, vintage red, KRZNA, and revolution. Along with our existing styles from Buffalo, French Connection, and all the smaller designers we have a fair collection of styles. Most of the collection is designed with the slimmer individual in mind but some such as KRZNA (pronounced Krishna) are designed for larger framed men.

We're constantly looking for styles for the bigger guys. We will find Razor quality designs for you too.

Denim Show

Black and gray denim looks ruled at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, with premium denim designers such as Antik, Yanuk and Taverniti sending models out in faded, whiskered and thrashed jeans accented with shiny hardware.

At nearly all shows, pockets showed up in unexpected places – down the thighs and at the back of the knees. Zippers popped up on back pockets, diagonally across front pockets and at the ankles.

Antik, known for its intricately stitched back-pocket designs, continues its hot denim status in L.A. and O.C. Bright, red plaid tops were mixed with mostly grayish denim.

Yanuk is trying to get a leg up on the massive denim market with an edgier and bleakly futuristic collection of soft gray denim and corseted, dresslike tops.

Up-and-comer Taverniti (by the son of Yanuk designer Ben Taverniti) offered up denim full of hardware touches and considerable stitchwork.

Latino Royalty

Wow, did we get shipments today. We got belts, an incredible selection of ties, many more spring casual and t-shirts and another line of denim from division-e.

I don't know where to put everything. I'll have to do some rearranging to find a place for everything.

Regarding the blue-green and white Ziggy shirts we ought to know tomorrow if we'll have more.

We've just put out our first set of bags by Latico. They come in black, brown and natural color and are perfect for laptops, file folders and more.

Denim, cuff-links, ties and hats

More 1921s have arrived. We also will are expecting a new delivery of cuff links and collor stays next week. There are going to be some beautiful and unusual ones: some made from turn of the century silver dimes, others are working light bulbs.

The ties have been delayed due to Good Friday. They ought to be here Tuesday.

We're also in the hunt for high quality hats. So if anyone knows of good, high-quality local designers have them contact us. We're looking at Rod Keenan, Stetson and others. I found a passionate piece praising the return of hats. It's worth the read even if you don't fully agree with the author. We're not convinced that well be carrying hats as we don't know if we can properly compete with either specialty or department stores.

Wow the denim is coming in fast and furious. The 1921s have arrived and they're hot. I like their packaging too. They come with extra fabric in case you get a tear and need to fix them ... why I don't really know. :-)

Film Crew at Razor

For all of you wondering what the commotion was about earlier today -- we had a film crew doing a shot at Razor. It was an interesting process. What impressed me was the amount of time and preparation necessary to set up even the simplest of scenes.

We've gotten two lines of Buffalo Denim. Both are moderately priced (under $100) and are relatively not destressed. We have them in both 32" and 34" lengths and will be getting the 30" shortly.

Yanuk Denim

Some new Yanuks are in. We have relatively unadorned denim -- baked in creases on the back of the knee and wearing on the cuffs -- in dark blue, light blue and with a black wash.

Ziggy Shirts

I promised I would put up some pictures of the new Ziggy shirts.

I'm having trouble taking pictures of clothing. This is the best of dozens of shots. Everything comes out terribly. Looks like I'll have to set up a photo studio with light stands to be able to take reasonably good shots.

The Buffalo embroidered shirts are going fast. If you fell in love with them hurry and get your shirt.
